Ace Combat 8 release date window

Ace Combat 8 release date window is among a lengthy list of unannounced games and their launch info leaked by an actor’s resume. Bandai Namco has previously confirmed that it’s working on the next Ace Combat game, but it has yet to be officially announced.

Ace Combat 8 release date might be sooner than we think

If the leak is correct, Ace Combat 8 is scheduled for release sometime in 2025. However, take this with a grain of salt because this information comes from a rather poorly redacted resume. The actor in question is Mike Bodie, whose profile is hosted on one of U.K.’s biggest casting website, Spotlight.com (via Reddit, ResetEra).

The resume also lists Supermassive Games’ The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 for release in 2025 along with Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion and The House of the Dead 2 remake. The games are listed as abbreviations, but not only are some of the abbreviations very obvious, they carry the names of their publishers, so the resume pretty much gives everything away.

There is speculation that one of the games code named “OAHU” by Gearbox is Borderlands 4, and it is also listed for release in 2025. A mafia-themed game is also listed in the resume but it doesn’t carry the publisher’s name so it’s unclear if it’s the rumored Mafia 4 or not.

Borderlands 4 reveal to be at the Summer Game Fest

The 2024 Summer Game Fest is fast approaching, with several major publishers gearing up for a big announcement. 2K Games is among the companies getting in on the festivities, teasing a major franchise announcement. A recent leak from a reliable source indicates that the new reveal will be none other than Borderlands 4.

Will the Borderlands 4 reveal be at the Summer Game Fest?

This news comes from the leaker Kurakasis, who’s built a reputation as a reliable source of insider information. “It has been discovered via eXputer’s contacts that 2K will offer Borderlands 4’s first-ever reveal at the upcoming Summer Game Fest on June 7,” Kurakasis wrote on Wednesday. “There is also a chance that the game gets formally announced before the event, followed by a better show of it during the showcase, but I cannot confirm that at this point.”

This will likely disappoint anyone hoping to see Mafia 4 or the new BioShock game at the Summer Game Fest. However, a Borderlands 4 reveal is excellent news for the series’ fans. While Tiny Tina’s Wonderland and New Tales from the Borderlands launched in 2022, the last mainline game was released in 2019.

Borderlands 3 faced a fair amount of criticism. Much of it targeted the NPC Ava and the game’s treatment of returning characters Lilith and Maya. Borderlands 3 suggested that Maya would be an important character in the next game, while the Director’s Cut indicated Lilith might also return. Hopefully, the Summer Game Fest’s Borderlands 4 reveal might offer clues to what Gearbox has in mind for those characters.

Recent Borderlands 4 Rumor Has Been Debunked

Actress Angie Jho Lee’s mention of Borderlands 4 in her online resume was a mistake, according to Genvid Entertainment — the company behind Borderlands’ upcoming interactive streaming series. After some took her resume as confirmation of a new Borderlands game, Genvid clarified that Lee is working on the recently announced Borderlands EchoVision Live.

Gearbox has yet to confirm Borderlands 4

It’s unclear why Lee specifically mentioned Borderlands 4, but Genvid was keen to put rumors to rest. In a statement to IGN, the company said that it reached out to the actress and asked her to rectify the error.

“While the series takes place within the Borderlands universe and is made in partnership with Gearbox Entertainment, it is not a Borderlands game,” Genvid clarified. “We reached out to Angie and asked her to make this change on her personal account to reflect the accurate role with the interactive series.”

This doesn’t mean a new main Borderlands entry isn’t coming. Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford previously teased “working on the big one” with reference to the Borderlands franchise. Despite its acquisition by Embracer Group, Gearbox will continue to lead the development of future Borderlands games. Pitchford has said that there will be no co-developers assisting with Borderlands’ development.

Borderlands 4 randy pitchford big one

While it may seem obvious that the Borderlands franchise isn’t going away, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has now explicitly confirmed that more Borderlands is coming, saying “We’re working on the big one.” Shutting down one rumor just to create another; While Pitchford stops short of saying a title, it could be inferred from the context of his tweet that the team is working on Borderlands 4.

Pitchford’s comments came after rumors of a new Borderlands spin-off game “that will deliver something different.” The Borderlands series does have some offshoots, namely Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel or Tales From the Borderlands. Pitchford, unprompted, decided to defend against details that weren’t even part of the rumor, reiterating the Gearbox does not assist or co-develop Borderlands games or their spin-offs. Rather, he insists that “Gearbox is the lead dev of any future games in the Borderlands franchise (or Borderlands adjacent games) with no co-development.

While the tweet seems to rule out the possibility of another collaboration with a developer like Telltale for a unique take on the franchise, it also kind of comes out of nowhere. The original rumor doesn’t even assert who would be developing this hypothetical Borderlands spin-off game. However, Pitchford didn’t stop there. He continued to double down, and may have even confirmed that they are working on Borderlands 4.

“We’re working on the big one,” Pitchford said in a call to action for potential development talent to “get in on some Borderlands action.”

“The big one” sure doesn’t sound like a simple spin off. It sounds a lot like Borderlands 4. In fact, Kotaku, who first noticed the odd wording of Pitchford’s tweet, notes that the Gearbox CEO used identical wording in 2015 when calling for talent to work on what was revealed to be Borderlands 3. However, Pitchford also used other popular developer buzzword phrasing like “surprise and delight,” so saying “the big one” could just be a flippant comment that we shouldn’t read into all that much. Is this the big one? The bigger one? Perhaps the biggest one?

What we know for certain is that Gearbox is working on more Borderlands, and it’s “the big one” following the last “big one,” which turned out to be Borderlands 3. Is it Borderlands 4? And what is the rumored “something different” that will define this game in particular? Will Gearbox chase the massively multiplayer and bigger shared world experiences of games like Destiny or even Fortnite or Warzone?

The original rumor claims “A new Borderlands is much closer than you think. Not a numbered one, but what you might call a spin-off,” as well as “Don’t worry. This game will deliver something different that I can’t wait to see the reactions to.” Combined with Pitchford’s comments about this next game being “the big one,” there’s a lot of potential here for where the Borderlands franchise could head next.

Gearbox was recently acquired by THQ Nordic parent company Embracer Group, becoming a new group under that umbrella. At that time, Gearbox also said it has a lot of new IP concepts it can now take risks with, thanks to the backing of its new owners. However, with Pitchford specifically mentioning Borderlands and addressing Borderlands rumors, it looks like his recruiting call is for whatever the next Borderlands game is, not one of these other new IPs. No matter what it is, Pitchford’s attempts to squash one rumor seem to have just ignited a whole lot of new speculation.
